When it comes to altering clothes, I pretty much have a knack for taking an existing piece of clothing and creating something new, even if it’s a slight change. I love thinking outside of the box and coming up with ideas that will flatter my body, and add that little twist. Here I took a Polka Dot dress which originally hit below the knee in length. I wanted to update this classic look and did so by tailoring the hem at an angle. While classy it definitely adds an edge. Here are some more tips on how to take a piece of clothing you already own, and by alternating it with a twist, you have a new item for your wardrobe.
1. Buttons – Change out the buttons on a shirt or a cardigan with bright ones, to give life to an old piece.
2. Striping – Take a pair of dress pants, sew on wide textured ribbon to the outside pant seam to create your own tuxedo pants.
3. Knots – With a loose tank or oversized cami blouse, take the shoulder straps, cut and tie together. This makes the top a better fit and adds texture with the knot.
