Just being able to say Duomo di Milano in Italian is almost reason enough to go, but it goes without saying that this “Italian Job” was literally just that, quite the job! In an ode to the longest Cathedral ever to be built – spanning almost 600 years, the stunning place of worship was built with contrasting styles and craftsmanship from Late Gothic, French Gothic and Renaissance.
As the fifth largest Cathedral in the world, a rooftop climb is considered essential in taking in the city of Milan in all its grander and beauty, and the sheer adventure of playing amongst the outdoor sculptures up close and personal. Especially because of the immense detail in styles, all of the tours available one should partake in. Below the 40,000 seater, is a page right out of the Da Vinci Code: Foundations of a Paleohristian baptistery (YES I said that correct) dating back to the 4th century, which was uncovered during an archaeological excavation.
It is below that you will find the ruins to the Battistero Paleocristiano – again with that Italian! It’s an extraordinary example of an ancient ritual which includes remains of earlier cathedrals. Now if we can just get Tom Hanks on the phone.
