the trouble with using wood for dominoes is that the grain makes them easy to read from the back. Think of a deck of marked cards, which are useless for any real games.
Sorry to hear that you had that experience with other wooden sets. That’s also what I love about this set. The back of the wood is blacked out not to give anything away!
