Truth: I reckon is gonna be a long time till women stop hating on women. It’s a sad and bold statement to make, but unless we talk about it, it holds rather true. Now let me preface to say that it’s not always the case, but it is still very much out there. Case in point: I was up for a mentorship with ‘Women in Film,” and when I was told that I had been matched with my mentor. I was so excited to meet her, and couldn’t wait to find out who she was… That’s when I found out it would be a male that would mentor me. In confusion I asked the head of the program how this was so, as this was “Women in Film” and surely a women would mentor me? She said to me “Oh gosh, women don’t help women in this town, they need the jobs for themselves. Their too scared you’ll take the jobs they’ve worked so hard for, so they don’t help – Men it is.”
My jaw dropped to the floor. I had never heard, fathomed, or even entertained the idea that this could be true. But after witnessing it myself after a number of years, unfortunately I saw it for myself. Sadly I see it in Instagram, twitter, and even blogging forums today. Hell I’ve even been hated upon by a bunch of upset, unhappy women. Not always, but sub-consciously we gals compare ourselves, which can lead to lack of self-worth. I’m here to say that I think you’re beautiful, you’re the whole package, you are enough. Personally I don’t subscribe to that negative female thought pattern and I hope you don’t too.
